The Nest was established in 2019 by Speech and Language Therapist Sophie Hutton who recognised the need for more specialist nursery places for children with additional needs. The team started as a team of three, which over the years grew to four and now five full-time members of staff.
The team in The Nest is overseen by Speech and Language Therapist and Early Years SENDCO Sophie Hutton who takes a passionate approach to specialist education. She ensures that all children in The Nest have access to a wide range of exciting and motivating activities as well as daily speech and language therapy. The team has a wealth of experience working with and supporting children and families with additional needs and uses neurodivergent affirming practices to support children with a wide range of needs.
Each part of the day in the Nest is designed to target speech and language development as well creating consistency for those children who need it. The environment is set up to inspire the children to get involved with different activities and promotes independent learning. The Nest has developed its own curriculum that combines the Early Years Foundation Stage, Speech and Language Therapy and experiences unique to The Nest.
The Nest works closely with a range of NHS and independent services to obtain Autism Spectrum Disorder assessments and diagnosis. We also then work with Ladywood Outreach to support families post diagnostically with any questions or queries they may have. The team also supports families of children with rare genetic and health condition to ensure that they are receiving the best possible therapy and support.
But most of all The Nest supports families and children, values their voices, their views and opinions and what they want for their children. We ensure families feel listened to and supported and connect them with other families to share experiences.
